Jade White Bi Disk

Regular price $9,500

Chinese tradition and heritage lessons begin at birth.  Spanning back thousands of years the Bi shape is one of the most intriguing objects in existence. Believed to symbolize Heaven, people have cherished this simple and elegant artform that was first discovered in burial tombs.  As a tribute to ones past, people wear, carry and collect this artform.  The earliest examples found are simple round disks with a hole through its center.  As time progressed, newer tools and technology discovered, designs were implemented.  Emperors, landowners and the wealthy commissioned carvers for personalized examples.  This Bi of pure bright white semi-translucent material has a pimple design on both sides, mimicking archaic pieces.  Expertly executed with a soft polish and patina. Minor rim abrasions. 2 3/8" diameter x 3/8" deep. 18th/19th Century.
