It is so rare that we can offer such a personal treasure that was owned by a King. This Jade and Silver pill box has historical significance being once owned by The King of England - The Duke of Windsor.
We have here an incredible, simple, but most important example of heraldry. Not only is this round Silver and Jade object d’art rare and special, but its heritage is remarkable. One can visualize the pleasure and happiness its owner possessed daily when flipping up the cover to open it. Inside resided his most important medicines for his lifeline. In his later life he was treated for various ailments, so this container was in continuous use.
Throughout history Jade was usually only owned by the wealthy. Its cost was too prohibitive for the general public. The green color mimics the color of bright Siberian material. Most of the objects created by Faberge, Cartier and Tiffany implementing Jade were from this remote area in Russia.
The manufacturing of pills became a fixture during the Victorian Era - named after Queen Victoria who reigned in England from 1837-1901. During her reign prosperity began and people around the world spent a little more on their own comforts. The more funds one had to spend, the more elaborate their pill boxes became. Silver, gold and gemstones were popular and a must have among the nobles. This container is still popular today.
The Duke of Windsor, also known as King Edward VIII, ruled in England for only a short time. He abdicated the throne so he could marry the love of his life - Wallis Simpson.
