There are many thousands of antique cameos still in existence. Few of these have adorned jewelry and fewer that have survived over the years. During the 18th/19th century craftsmen perfected their ability to provide much detailed carvings and this cameo is one of those examples. The two color agate gemstone depicts a beautiful lady - The Goddess Venus. She is impressively mounted in a silver gilt ring with hand crafted design with cupids on either side. This oversize ring was probably crafted for a wealthy and influential individual. The cameo itself is a whopping 1 3/8” long x 7/8’ wide. Ring size is 11.25.
